A message can have a big impact on people, and that’s what we hope to create by starting an online fundraising campaign through Instagram (@feedthecommunity).

We recognize that we are in a position of privilege, as we’ve never had to wonder when our next meal will be. We sit behind a screen to attend online classes and complain, but sometimes forget that many others stop attending school due to food insecurity. Some of our group members have seen the heartbreaking reality of families in poverty, where children sacrifice their future to earn extra income. As active citizens, we believe it is our responsibility to do our part in minimizing this inequality that is faced by many in our community. Children deserve to sit in a classroom, absorbing knowledge with a full stomach, and we would like to help the cause in any way we can.

We are fortunate that there is food on the table every day, and that we are able to receive a quality education. However, not everyone is so privileged. Therefore, as part of our community service project at Sunway University, we would like to raise awareness about the difficulties that are faced by our local community. To do so, we have set up an Instagram account (@feedthecommunity) to bring light to these issues and raise funds within our community. We hope to reach a goal of RM1,000 by the 5th of March. Stella McCartney once said, “Everyone can do simple things to make a difference, and every little bit really does count.” This is our effort to make a difference in the world, no matter how small.

No matter how small or big the contribution may be, we know that someone’s life will be better because of it. With the kind intention to help, a child will have food on their plate, a higher chance of receiving education and a brighter future. Even if it is only one child, knowing that we’ve given back to our community makes us happy
