Meet Our Beneficiaries‘ is a new monthly blog project where we will be sharing the emotional stories of our beneficiaries under Charity Right Malaysia’s projects like Feed to Educate and Thank God Its Food (TGIF) amongst others. Today, we have three touching stories to share.

Haikal, Meet Our Beneficiaries

Meet Haikal, our beneficiary under the Feed to Educate program. He’s a sweet 12-year-old boy and the eldest of his 3 siblings. Haikal is adored by everyone as he’s a hardworking boy & excels in his studies. Mathematics is his favourite subject at school because he feels his maths teacher is the best!

Sadly, Haikal’s family is among the underprivileged families affected by COVID-19. Due to the Movement Control Order (MCO), his mum lost her job & his father is the sole breadwinner. He has been struggling to put food on the table these days because their family income is no longer enough to support the whole family.

Concerned with his future and wanting to help this family, we were introduced to Adik Haikal through his teachers. Under the Feed to Educate program, his family will receive a monthly food box and his parents will be provided with entrepreneurship courses to help improve their financial situation.

It warms our heart to see Adik Haikal feeling motivated to work harder & focus on his studies. Now, he doesn’t have to go to school with a hungry stomach or worry about his next meal.

Nadihah, Meet Our Beneficiaries

Meet Nadihah, a sweet and soft-spoken 13-year-old girl. Her mother, Raziah, who’s currently working for a courier service is the sole provider of the family. Nadihah’s father passed away last year.

Despite the hardship, it does not break her spirit to pursue her education and she never skips school sessions. She loves drawing and it’s no surprise that she enjoys the Designs & Technology subject at school.

Alhamdulilah, we are grateful to have come across this family to help them. Recently, a food pack that consists of staple food has been delivered to the family, so they don’t have to worry about their next meal.

More than 1 in 10 children in Malaysia have less than 3 meals per day, forcing them to live in hunger. Plus, many poor children are skipping school because their families would rather send them to work and earn extra income for the family.

Alia, Meet Our Beneficiaries

Meet Alia. When was the last time you dreamt about your future? Our recent meeting with a young girl reminds us of what it feels like to be a dreamer.

We met Alia at one of our food aid deliveries in Kuala Lumpur. She’s 10 years and the eldest of her 2 siblings.

“What’s your favourite subject at school?”, we asked her.

She responded, “It has to be Science.”
“And why do you like Science?”
“I want to be a Doctor when I grow up!”

It was truly inspiring when we learned about her passion and dream. We know this girl will have a bright future ahead. To some of us, it may seem too optimistic because great dreams need to be followed by massive action. However, what we don’t know is that underprivileged kids are scared to dream and be hopeful of the future. It is embedded in their mind that they will live in the same circle as their parents and that breaking free from poverty is just an impossible dream. Most of us were able to live up to our dream due to our privileged upbringing but unfortunately, these children do not have the same opportunities that we have. Sadly for many underprivileged children, hunger and poverty stand in the way of their education.

Under the Feed to Educate program, Charity Right Malaysia supports single mothers and female-led households like Raziah, inspiring students like Alia and Haikal by providing monthly food aid and entrepreneurship courses. This way, their children can focus on their education while the parents are equipped with skills and knowledge to help them break free from poverty.

Students from 478 families across 9 schools under the Feed to Educate program get to continue their education in Malaysia.
